English Language Workshop on Journalism Equips UMNU Kebumen Students with News Writing Skills

UMNU Kebumen, February 16, 2020 – In a bid to enhance their proficiency in news writing and journalism, students from the English Language Study Program at UMNU Kebumen enthusiastically participated in a two-day workshop held on the 14th and 15th of February 2020. The event was organized in collaboration with the Dinas Kearsipan dan Perpustakaan (Disarpus) of Kabupaten Kebumen, the Indonesian Journalist Association, and the English Language Study Program itself.

The workshop, centered around honing news writing skills in English, attracted a diverse group of students eager to delve into the world of journalism. The participants were treated to insightful presentations and interactive sessions that provided a comprehensive overview of journalism techniques, news gathering, and crafting compelling news stories.

Distinguished speakers included Supriyanto from the Indonesian Journalist Association, whose extensive experience in the field offered valuable insights into the ethical considerations and practical challenges faced by journalists. Anna, representing Disarpus, shed light on the vital role of libraries and archives in the information age, underlining their relevance in accurate news reporting.

Hellaisna, the Head of the English Language Study Program at UMNU Kebumen, emphasized the importance of cultivating a diverse skill set to stay competitive in the ever-evolving media landscape. She noted that proficiency in news writing, especially in English, is a sought-after skill that can significantly elevate students’ career prospects.
