Kebumen, August 14, 2021 – In a bid to sharpen their writing abilities, students pursuing a degree in English education at UMNU (University of Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen) organized a journalism training session. This initiative forms part of the coursework for the ‘Writing for Academic Purposes’ module.
The training event saw collaboration not only with internal UMNU faculty members but also with an external academic expert. Dwi Lia Rakhmasari, M.A. from STIE Putra Bangsa, was invited as a guest speaker to provide valuable insights and guidance to the students.
The event took place on August 14, 2021, in the serene surroundings of Trikarto Village. It was exclusively attended by members of the Islamic Women’s Student Organization (IPPNU), many of whom are actively engaged in various academic and community initiatives.
Hastri Firharmawan, M.Pd., the instructor of the ‘Writing for Academic Purposes’ course, emphasized the importance of equipping students and organizational activists with strong writing skills that meet publication standards. He underlined the significance of this training, particularly for IPPNU members who play pivotal roles within the organization.
Firharmawan stated, “Enhancing the writing abilities of our students and organizational members is crucial. Not only does it contribute to their personal development, but it also strengthens our collective capacity to produce high-quality written content. In the case of IPPNU, where these students are active members, this training is particularly valuable.”
The training was well-received by the participants, who found the insights and skills acquired during the session to be highly beneficial for their future academic and organizational endeavors. It is expected that this journalism training will continue to be a valuable component of the English education program at UMNU, contributing to the development of well-rounded, skilled graduates.
