English Language Study Program UMNU Kebumen Assigns Lecturers to Attend Self-Censorship Cultural Socialization in Central Java Province
Kebumen, July 10, 2023 – The English Language Study Program at UMNU Kebumen has taken a significant step towards promoting cultural awareness and responsible media consumption. The program recently dispatched a group of lecturers to participate in the Self-Censorship Cultural Socialization event held in Central Java Province.
The event, which took place on July 10, 2023, at the Grand Kolopaking Hotel in Kebumen, attracted representatives from various educational institutions, students, and cultural enthusiasts. Its primary purpose was to emphasize the importance of empowering individuals to selectively choose and filter the type of content they consume, with the aim of protecting themselves from negative influences.
Dr. Nasrullah, Chairman of Commission 1 for Censorship, Dialogue, Communication, and Data at the Indonesian Film Censorship Board (Lembaga Sensor Film Republik Indonesia), graced the occasion as one of the keynote speakers. He shared insights and perspectives on the role of self-censorship in safeguarding societal values and preserving cultural integrity.
Another distinguished speaker at the event was Yulaida, a psychologist from the Soedirman General Hospital in Kebumen Regency. Yulaida shed light on the psychological impact of media exposure and provided guidance on maintaining mental well-being through responsible content consumption.
Additionally, Kuat Prihatin, M.M., a member of the sub-commission for research at the Indonesian Film Censorship Board, delivered a thought-provoking presentation on the latest research findings related to the effects of media content on individuals’ behavior and attitudes.
The English Language Study Program at UMNU Kebumen expressed its hope that the valuable information disseminated during the event would reach its students. By doing so, they believe that students will be equipped with the necessary skills to make wise choices when selecting their entertainment, thus contributing to the overall well-being of society.
