UMNU Kebumen invited 5 Native Speakers from 5 Countries as an International Cultural Exchange through Project Based Learning in the CCU (Cross Cultural Understanding) course

Dean of FKIP and instructor of the CCU (Cross Cultural Understanding) course Alek Andika, M.Pd together with 5th semester students conducted UAS in the form of project based learning (PJBL) by presenting 5 native speakers to share the culture of each country, namely (Pakistan/Sundas Ejaz, Thailand/Nor Najihah Saad, Philippines/Sabrina Joy S.Tan, Gambia/Mbemba Badjie and Algeria/Ahmed Abdallah Faouzi Attia). They are international students from Gajah Mada University (UGM) who are taking cultural education at INCULS (Indonesian Language and Culture Learning Service), UGM, led by Mr. Dr. Rudi Ekasiswanto, M. Hum.

The opening was attended by Vice Rector 2 (Hastri Firharmawan, M.Pd), Head of Study Program (Atik Muhimmatun Asroriyah, M.Pd and all English Language Education lecturers). Where the opening began with an appearance from the management of the Karangsambung Geopark, Kebumen using wayang golek media telling the multicultural history that occurred in Kebumen. Followed by various local Kebumen cultural performances such as Ebleg/ Kuda Lumping, lawet dance and Pagar Nusa pencak silat by students. The ebleg performance was also attended by 2 male foreigners who were very enthusiastic about practicing it. Then a culinary session of traditional Kebumen food was also presented as well as food tasting by all participants.

In the next session there was a talk show where the native speakers presented the culture of each country through interesting lectures and videos, thereby generating responses to questions from the talk show participants. According to (Alek) “This occasion will be the annual program for students who take CCU course as the final exam project, it will also build students’ character to face 5.0 Era and 21st Century Learning which students must have 4 C’s skills such as Critical thinking , Creative, Communicative and Collaborative”.
